The Christie Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a tertiary centre providing world renowned clinical services for our patients, first class education of cancer professionals and a clinical trials unit recognised as a leading centre in Europe. We are the lead cancer centre for a network of services covering 3,2 million people across Greater Manchester and Cheshire and also provide some highly specialised services for patients across the UK. In addition, the recently established Manchester Cancer Research Centre is securing Manchester's position as a world leader in cancer research. We are looking for a non executive director to work alongside the other non executive directors, the chairman, and the executive directors as equal members of the NHS foundation trust board of directors. You must have a strong general management background and knowledge of the healthcare sector. We are particularly interested in candidates who may have experience of the health and social care sector in either the private or public sector.

It is estimated that there are between 300,000 and half-a-million people working in the private security industry. Regulation of the industry was introduced with the implementation of the Private Security Industry Act 2001. The Security Industry Authority (SIA) is the organisation responsible for the regulatory function, in accordance with the 2001 Act. Regulation is effected primarily through a licensing system enabling trained individuals to work in specific fields of the industry. The SIA is an Executive Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB) responsible directly to the Home Secretary. Their mission is "to help protect society by collaboratively developing and achieving high standards in the private security industry". The SIA's vision is "to create a Security Industry Authority that is a model of good regulation and internationally recognised as a major contributor to the quality and effectiveness of the private security industry thus helping to reduce crime, disorder and the fear of crime". The Home Office is looking to appoint up to 2 Non-Executive Directors of high calibre who can bring their weight of experience and professional expertise to the Board of the Security Industry Authority (SIA).

The Revenue and Customs Prosecutions Office (RCPO) is an independent government department responsible for prosecuting major drug trafficking, money laundering and tax fraud cases in England and Wales. Handling some 2,500 cases a year, it is a key part of the UK's Criminal Justice System. RCPO is a major prosecutor in both the Crown and the Magistrates' Courts, handling HM Revenue and Customs Cases. Since 2006 it has also prosecuted cases for the Serious and Organised Crime Agency (SOCA). Its prosecutions include many of the largest and most serious cases involving drugs, alcohol and tobacco smuggling, VAT, income tax and other types of tax fraud, money laundering and export control. RCPO was created as an independent prosecuting department created by statute in April 2005.The RCPO is looking to appoint up to 2 Non-Executive Directors, with effect from January 2008. Individuals of high calibre with a background in the business and public sector and board level experience, in a substantial organisation, are particularly sought. Candidates must have experience at strategic/board level.

University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust is a major acute teaching Trust. The Trust, recognised as a centre of clinical excellence, provides a wide range of health services to the areas of South Manchester, South Trafford, North East Cheshire and West Stockport. The Trust also provides specialist tertiary services to patients from further afield serving a total population of over 3 million. It employs more than 5,300 staff and has an annual income over £280 million. The Trust was awarded Foundation Trust status in 2006. The Trust now seeks a new Chair to provide leadership and overall strategic direction to ensure its continuing success as a Healthcare Commission rated 'High Performing Trust putting it in the top 11 acute Trusts in England. Successful leadership at board level in a large, complex customer facing organisation coupled with some non executive experience and an interest in the local and national health agenda.
